15 March | Kathmandu, Bagmati Province - The Department of Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), and WHO, Country Office for Nepal, organized an interaction program with Ayurveda stakeholders to develop an action plan on improving and maintaining the quality, safety, and efficacy of Ayurveda medicines available in Nepal. Over 60 participants representing medicine regulators, senior Ayurveda physicians from MoHP, and stakeholders from Nepal Ayurveda Medicines Producers Association, Ayurveda Doctors Association of Nepal, and related academic institutions, discussed current issues on quality of Ayurveda medicines and possible solutions to resolve the issues which can arise due to non-compliance with standards like Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Storage and Distribution Practice (GSDP). Participants recommended standardization of raw materials, alongside implementation of good manufacturing, storage, distribution, and documentation practices. WHO will continue to support the MoHP with technical support to implement recommended action points, mainly capacity-building activities for GMP and GSDP implementation.
