The second dose of the Inactivated COVID-19 Vaccine (Vero Cell) was administered nationwide from 6 July 2021 onwards to the population belonging to the 60-64 years age group. Vaccines were also administered to those who had earlier missed out on receiving their shots during previous drives. These included health workers, other essential workers and those individuals who fulfilled the age criteria set by the government.
Babandevi Chaudhari (62) and her husband Sitasharan Chaudhari (72) from Mahottari district in Province 2 are among the thousands of Nepalis who received their second dose of the vaccine during the recent vaccination drive at Health Office in Dhanusha.
The couple say they were encouraged to get vaccinated by their grandson who is studying medicine.
“He explained to us the risk of COVID-19 disease, ways to be protected and benefits of being vaccinated so we came here today to get our second dose,” said Babandevi.
“We received our vaccine without any struggles. We are happy as we are fully vaccinated now,” said Sitasharan with a big smile on his face.
As of 13 July 2021, about 2.6 million people in the country have received their first dose. Of these, over 1.1 million people (3.6% of the total population) have been fully vaccinated.
