Surkhet, Karnali Province – WHO, Country Office for Nepal, trained 15 data collectors on conducting health facility assessment using the WHO Health Resources and Services Availability Monitoring System (HeRAMS) tool for the first time in Nepal. HeRAMS, an essential component of emergency preparedness and response, supports countries with the standardization and continuous collection, analysis, and dissemination of information on the availability of essential health services and resources down to the point of service delivery. The program familiarized the collectors with the HeRAMS questionnaire, which will help identify gaps in services and resources at the health facilities and support decision-makers with continuously updated and readily available data to design targeted interventions. Utilization of this tool is especially useful in a post-disaster context to assess the impact of the disaster on health facilities. The 77 health facilities that were affected in the recent earthquake will be assessed using the HeRAMS questionnaire. Out of them, 40 health facilities in Jajarkot district will be covered in the first round of assessment.
