Kathmandu, Bagmati Province - To commemorate World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week, senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and the Ministry of Forests and Environment, joined representatives from WHO, FAO and AMR-related partners for a morning awareness rally. Jointly organized by the three ministries with support from WHO and FAO, the event emphasized multi-sectoral collaboration through a One Health approach to educate and raise awareness to promote the responsible use of antimicrobials across human health, veterinary practices, aggriculture and food production. Officials emphasized best practices to prevent and control the emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections, highlighted the significance of the recently disseminated National Action Plan on AMR in guiding national efforts to combat this pressing health threat and urged all relevant sectors to prioritize the plan’s implementation in their respective programmes. World AMR Awareness Week is observed from 18-24 November every year. This year, the theme is “Educate. Advocate. Act Now.”
