Nagarkot, Bagmati Province - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), with support from WHO, Country Office for Nepal, organized a workshop on 22-23 February to collect recommendations for developing a National Action Plan for low carbon health systems, in alignment with the MoHP’s commitments at COP26. 25 government officials and researchers from health, environment, and energy sectors were briefed on the findings of a baseline assessment of greenhouse gas emissions by the health sector in Nepal, followed by discussions on the approach to build a low carbon health system, identification of potential areas in healthcare with clear targets to reduce carbon emissions, and collection of recommendations. WHO will support the MoHP to compile these inputs and develop a national plan, alongside publishing and disseminating the baseline assessment report.
