Nepal

Kathmandu, Bagmati Province – WHO Country Office for Nepal handed over consumables and equipment to the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Aligning with Nepal's legislation of restricting levels of industrially produced trans-fatty acids - which significantly elevates the risk of cardiovascular diseases - the provided consumables and equipment will enhance DFTQC's capabilities to monitor transfat levels in foods. WHO will support DFTQC in capacity-building initiatives and disseminating advocacy materials to reduce trans-fat contents and other harmful products. These initiatives promote better health and well-being, and align with the Sustainable Development Goal targets to reduce premature mortality from NCDs by one-third by 2030.
