
Kathmandu, Bagmati Province – WHO, Country Office for Nepal, handed over 45,000 nicotine chewing gums to the National Health Education Information Communication Center, Department of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Population. This will support to pilot Nicotine Replacement Therapy, an important intervention for tobacco cessation, in Bir Hospital and Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. WHO will also support the MoHP to conduct evaluation of the feasibility, acceptability, cost, and effectiveness of the cessation services. Nepal has set a target of 30% relative reduction in prevalence of current tobacco use in persons aged 15+ years by 2025 in the National Multisectoral Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases 2021-2025.
