26 – 29 September | Kathmandu, Bagmati Province – WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia (SEARO) organized a regional workshop to strengthen antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance and enhance regional collaboration and coordination for evidence-based interventions. Over 50 participants from WHO SEARO Member States, including AMR focal points, discussed best practices and lessons learned, the development and implementation of national AMR surveillance in their respective countries, and the importance of constructing a framework for strengthening diagnostic capacity and laboratory systems. Following discussions, Member States agreed upon setting up a SEAR AMR laboratory working group for enabling better coordination. Member States will now work to enhance AMR surveillance with the inclusion of fungal surveillance as part of routine surveillance, conduct AMR prevalence surveys, strengthen the capacity of national reference laboratories and related personnel, and encourage data sharing.
