29 October 2024
Departmental update

28-29 October | Kathmandu, Bagmati province - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), with support from WHO Country Office for Nepal, conducted a two-day orientation on the Health Resources and Services Availability Monitoring System (HeRAMS) tool for over 80 government health officials, including municipal health coordinators, district health officers and provincial health officials. On the first day, more than 50 officials from Bagmati province participated, while over 35 officials from Koshi and Madhesh provinces were trained on the second day. All training participants were from palikas designated by the government as flood-affected areas in September. HeRAMS, a global tool for emergency preparedness and response, facilitates standardized data collection and analysis on the availability of essential services and functionality of health facilities down to the point of delivery, enabling decision-makers to assess facility conditions and perform evidence-based interventions. Trained officials will now assess health facilities in their municipalities, focusing on damage from the September floods and landslides. The gathered data will be reported to MoHP to inform onwards action at the appropriate level. HeRAMS was first implemented in the country following the 2023 West Nepal earthquake.
