International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week commemorated in Koshi province

Biratnagar, Koshi province - As part of International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2024, the Ministry of Health and Population and WHO Country Office for Nepal organized a multistakeholder workshop in Koshi province, aimed at enhancing awareness among stakeholders about the importance of adhering to lead paint standards. The province is home to several paint factories. Eighty participants representing health and environment sectors, nongovernmental organizations, trade unions, the paint industries, academia and media attended the event supported by the provincial Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment, Ministry of Social Development, Biratnagar Metropolitan City and Center for Public Health and Environmental Development. Stakeholders committed to enhancing local collaboration, sharing knowledge on lead-free paint production and advocating for health protection from lead poisoning. WHO will continue to advocate for the effective implementation of lead paint standards and support research studies on various other sources of lead exposure.
