The WHO Country Office for Romania partnered with the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) to host a hybrid conference commemorating the anniversary of WHO’s Global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem. The conference brought together health professionals and representatives from academia, civil society, and professional associations with the aim of catalysing efforts to expand access to HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening. Distinguished speakers, including Dr Carmen Ungurean, Head of Noncommunicable Diseases at the National Institute of Public Health emphasized the need for improved coverage for HPV vaccination and screening for cervical cancer. While, WHO colleagues contributed insights on best practices for screening and the WHO European Region’s roadmap to support Member States in achieving the 90–70–90 targets for elimination.
