Anaemia accelerating progress for Paris N4G 2025 webinar flyer

Background

Anaemia is a critical health issue affecting an estimated half a billion women worldwide, signifying poor nutrition and health. Anaemia leads to fatigue, reduced physical capacity, and severe maternal and newborn risks. This webinar will examine the profound impact of anaemia on women’s well-being, pregnancy outcomes, economic productivity, and gender equality, as it affects women at double the rate of men. The 2025 Global Nutrition Target will not be met. With substantial economic costs tied to anaemia—estimated at $161 billion annually—addressing it is crucial for sustainable global development and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

In this webinar, we will discuss the complex causes of anaemia, including micronutrient deficiencies, infections, genetic factors, and chronic health conditions, all heightened in regions with high burdens of disease and inadequate resources. This session will emphasize the urgent need for targeted interventions to prevent and manage anaemia and support healthier, more resilient populations.

The webinar aims to:

  • Highlight the current progress and identify barriers to achieving the Global Nutrition Targets on anaemia by 2025.
  • Present the suggested extension of the WHA Global Nutrition Targets to align with the 2030 agenda.
  • Showcase best practice examples from countries to inspire others in their journey to commitment-making.
  • Focus attention on high-impact interventions needed to improve anaemia.
  • Describe key resources that countries can use to address anaemia relevant to the scope of the Paris Nutrition for Growth Summit and the SUN Global Gathering in 2025.
