The Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) continues to deliver equipment to countries in need to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the Americas.
In Colombia, the Organization recently delivered 650 hygiene kits to vulnerable migrant communities in the Venezuela border region. The delivery was made possible with funding from the U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, a department of USAID. The project seeks to improve the hygiene of migrants in transit to protect them from COVID-19 and other illnesses.
In Peru, WHO/PAHO recently delivered 62 oxygen concentrators to the Ministry of Health to care for patients with severe cases of COVID-19 in some of the most difficult to reach areas of the country. An additional 20 units are on the way. The donation was made possible thanks to support from Direct Relief.
The WHO/PAHO country office also delivered 10 oxygen concentrators for COVID-19 patients to the Ministry of Health in Trinidad and Tobago. The equipment was purchased through the United Nations COVID-19 Supply Chain, in collaboration with WHO.
Oxygen concentrators are lifesaving devices that play a key role in countries’ responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
