Mauritius: WHO helps strengthen COVID-19 infection prevention and control capacity

12 October 2020

WHO facilitated a Training of Trainers on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Case Management in October 2020 in Mauritius to strengthen capacity of health workers on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.

The training was made possible through funds provided to WHO through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) and the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).

The training and the funds will support the Ministry of Health in strengthening infection protection and control (IPC) measures to prevent COVID-19 across community-based, primary health care and educational institutions.

The training was delivered virtually by experts from the WHO Regional Office for Africa. Face-to-face sessions took place locally.

Mauritius is currently promoting a culture of IPC in hospitals by implementing appropriate guidelines. An IPC committee has also been set up at the level of the Ministry of Health.

WHO thanks all donors and partners who have contributed to fund the Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to combat COVID-19. A special appreciation goes to Member States and other contributors who provided flexible funds, making it possible for WHO to deliver a coherent, strategic and broad response.
