Strengthening Codex activities (through Codex Trust Fund)

Strengthening Codex activities (through Codex Trust Fund)

Overview

The Codex Trust Fund (CTF) has been established by FAO and WHO to support Member States to build strong, solid and sustainable national capacity to engage in Codex. WHO in coordination with FAO facilitated the submission of a project proposal by India on the behalf of Bhutan, India and Nepal. It was a strategic approach to bring three countries together which are friendly neighbours and have cross-border trade. WHO provided technical support to submit a group application in coordination with respective WHO country offices from the very beginning and fund has been channelized through them for its implementation. It was the first multi country project approved by the Codex Trust Fund at global level, and the first CTF project in Asia. This project will further strengthen national Codex activities in participating countries through inter-country codex collaborations, including common positions in Codex standard setting process in the next three years. The future scope of group applications will depend on its successful implementation. Second group CTF project in Asia has been approved for a project proposal submitted by Myanmar on the behalf of Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar in 2020.
