Thailand’s physical activity drive is improving physical health
Overview
Thailand as the global leader in physical activity promotion.

12 September 2018, Bangkok. Ministry of Public Health Thailand, together with Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour and Thai Health Promotion Foundation, launched the National Plan to Promote Physical Activity (2018-2030) and its Action Plan (2018-2020). These first-ever policy documents reiterate the high-level political commitment of the Royal Thai Government in promoting a healthy lifestyle. The Cabinet approved the Physical Activity Plan on 28 August 2018 and tasked Ministry of Public Health to lead multi-sectoral collaboration with other ministries and sectors in implementing the Plan.
The National PA Plan well synchronizes with the recent global movements, including the new global voluntary target for 2030 and the recently adopted Global Action Plan on Physical Activity (GAPPA)-endorsed in the 71st World Health Assembly. Backed by the WHO Status Report on Physical Activity and Health in the South-East Asia Region, the Action Plan aims to promote physical activity and discourage sedentary lifestyles through life courses, with focuses on school, workplace, and local community settings.
