Overview
The Expert Consultation on Nipah Virus Infection convened in New Delhi, India, on 15–16 October 2019, bringing together global and regional specialists to assess and strengthen preparedness for Nipah virus (NiV) in the WHO South‑East Asia Region. Discussions covered global and regional experiences, emerging evidence, and good practices relevant to NiV prevention and control. Participants reviewed regional needs, gaps, and priority actions and provided strategic recommendations for the development of a regional road map to combat NiV infections, including priority research areas for pre‑, intra‑, and post‑outbreak phases. The meeting gathered 24 experts across ten thematic domains, with representation from India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, and the United Kingdom, along with technical staff from WHO SEARO, headquarters, and the WHO Country Office for India.
