WHO/SEARO in collaboration with Robert Koch Institute, Germany has developed HEOC capacity building package titled “Project on Training for Health Emergency Operations Centres” (ProTECt) to strengthen capacity and capabilities of the Member States. The main objective of the project is to enhance the capacities of HEOC focal points and Ministry of Health (MoH) staff in the region to successfully plan for activating and running the HEOC at the national level.

Maldives was identified as pilot country to implement the HEOC capacity building package. In preparation for the HEOC capacity building package, WHO SEARO and RKI conducted a training need assessment followed by five-day workshop and Training of Trainers (ToT) which was conducted in Malé, Maldives from 12 -16 June 2022. The aim of training was to enhance capacities of responsible staff involved in activating and running a HEOC at national level, and training of respective staff on subnational levels. The workshop included WHO Country Office Maldives, Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Ministry of Health, Maldives who are responsible for all HEOC activities in the country.
