Word Blood Donor Day 2019

14 – 24 June 2019

Safe blood for all

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

Access for all to safe blood and blood products is a vital part to achieve universal health coverage (UHC). As the theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day – ‘Safe blood for all’ – emphasizes, all people everywhere should have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe, quality-assured blood and blood products. The health system needs to meet demand, for the patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, a child with severe anaemia, a woman suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth, for surgeries, treatment of malignancies etc.
