Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and World Health Organization (WHO) in the Asia-Pacific region have institutionalized a tripartite coordination mechanism and anti-microbial resistance (AMR) has been identified as a priority area for operationalization of the One Health.
As a part of the Asia-Pacific tripartite initiative, a webinar on the FAO-OIE-WHO One Health approach to AMR mitigation and safer food in the Asia-Pacific Region will be organized from 29 to 30 September 2021 with the following objectives;
- To provide a briefing on AMR as a food safety issue and its implication on public health and food trade.
- To advocate the role of human health, animal health, food safety and environment sectors in containment of AMR using One Health approach.
- To provide updates on relevant capacity building activities carried out by FAO, OIE and WHO.
- To provide updates on OIE international standards, progress made by FAO/WHO Codex on the revision of Code of Practice to Minimize and Contain Antimicrobial Resistance (2005) across the entire food chain and the development of Guidelines on Integrated Monitoring and Surveillance of Foodborne AMR.
General information on AMR-related activities including capacity building and monitoring and surveillance of antimicrobial use (AMU) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Asia carried out by the Tripartite agencies in the Asia-Pacific region will be presented on day 1 and more specific AMR activities in relation to OIE international standards, Codex and food safety will be presented in day 2.
