Access to safe blood and blood products is recognized as one on the key requirement for delivery of modern safe health care in the journey towards health for all. The foundation of safe and sustainable blood supplies depends upon collection of blood from voluntary non-remunerated and low risk donors ensuring patient safety. Data from WHO-Global Database for Blood Safety (GDBS) brings out several inadequacies related to the supply and safety of blood and blood products. These inadequacies include several variations in safe blood Transfusion practices across the world, including the source of blood (voluntary and replacement donors). WHO has been at the forefront of advocating for Voluntary non remunerated donations to ensure safe supply of blood to all who need it. Global patient safety action plan (2021-30) has also identified blood safety as important component of patient safety. Aim of conducting this 3-day online web training series on “Towards 100 percent Voluntary Blood donation - Understanding challenges and barriersin the South-East Asia”  utilizing prerecorded videos on safe and sustainable blood supplies through promotion of voluntary blood donation, covering topics – the entire journey of the societal movement, starting from the information education and communication with the potential blood donor base for motivation of blood donation, to the recruitment and the conduct of blood donor selection, phlebotomy, and post donation care in the endeavour to obtain the donated blood from the donors vein in an quality assured process, conversion of first time and family/friends into regular repeat blood donors. Further strengthening the quality assurance by the implementation of counselling at various stages of blood donation process and donor vigilance to improve overall donor care and satisfaction, which ultimately helps in donor retention.
