Antimicrobial Stewardship Mentorship Program in Sri Lanka - 2025

Background

The Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Mentorship Program aims to foster excellence in antimicrobial use and establish sustainable AMS systems through personalized coaching and interactive discussions. The goal is to create a nucleus of AMS expertise to support the nationwide scaling-up of AMS practices.

Program Details:

  • Duration: January to June 2025
  • Facilitators: WHO-SEARO, Fleming Fund, and Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore
  • Participants: 18 government hospitals and 2 private hospitals

Team Composition for Each Hospital:

  • Hospital Director/Deputy Director
  • Consultant Microbiologist (Coordinator)
  • Clinicians
  • IPC Nurse
  • Chief Pharmacist
  • Other AMS committee members

Key Activities:

  • Staff from four hospitals (CNTH, NHK, SJH, and Lanka Hospital) trained in 2023 will serve as resource persons.
  • First meeting: January 16, 2025, at 2:00 pm (IST) via Zoom.
  • Webinar sessions will continue every fortnight.

This program aims to enhance AMS systems in tertiary and specialized healthcare facilities, leveraging the expertise of trained staff to share experiences and best practices.
