The Regional Workshop (virtual) on prioritizing and accelerating the commitments to the Bangkok Declaration on Oral Health in the WHO South-East Asia Region conducted by the Department of Healthier Population and NCDs of the WHO South-East (SE) Asia Regional Office aimed at reviewing and reaffirming the commitments of the Member States in the Bangkok Declaration on oral health; updating the Member States on WHO technical products and guidance; and on sharing key learnings by Member Sates in implementation of the national oral health roadmaps and to discuss solutions.
The Bangkok Declaration – No Health Without Oral Health, was adopted at the first ever WHO Global Oral Health Meeting, convened in Bangkok, Thailand, in November 2024. The global meeting was attended by Chief Dental Officers and the universal health coverage (UHC) leads of nine Member States of the SE Asia region. The declaration is a crucial affirmation of political commitment from Member States to elevate oral diseases as a global public health priority and to integrate oral health within the NCD, UHC and planetary health agendas. Leveraging on the momentum created by the Global Oral Health Meeting, WHO SE Asia regional Office continued its technical support to the Member States to implement the national oral health roadmaps, since November 2024.
The Chief Dental Officers, the members of the national oral health programme teams and other dental professionals of the WHO South-East Asia Region, members of WHO Collaborating Centers on oral health and WHO technical staff attended the workshop and contributed to the technical discussions and planned the next steps on collaborative work to fulfill the commitments to the Bangkok Declaration.
