We are pleased to invite you to the fourth session of the WHO-SEARO Webinar Series on Responsible AI in Healthcare, organized in collaboration with the Koita Centre for Digital Health, Ashoka University.
This session will focus on Advanced AI Architectures — Federated Learning, Privacy-Preserving Methods, and Edge Processing, an emerging frontier shaping the future of trustworthy health AI systems. As countries across South-East Asia expand digital health programs, the ability to build AI models without compromising patient privacy, while enabling secure and efficient data use across distributed settings, is becoming central to public health innovation.
This discussion will explore practical pathways for adopting distributed learning models, secure data computation approaches, and edge-embedded intelligence that can strengthen privacy protection, support low-resource settings, and scale equitable innovation across diverse health systems.
Objectives
- Examine cutting-edge architectural approaches—federated learning, differential privacy, edge intelligence—and their relevance for health systems in the region.
- Discuss implementation considerations, including data infrastructure readiness, regulatory enablers, and capacity requirements.
- Understand how advanced privacy-preserving models can support cross-institutional collaboration without compromising security or patient rights.
Expected Outcomes
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Clearly articulate the value and application of federated and privacy-preserving learning approaches for healthcare.
- Recognize technical, ethical, and governance prerequisites for deploying such architectures at scale.
- Identify opportunities for regional collaboration, research partnerships, and pilot programs using distributed and edge-based AI methods.
