Global Outbreak Alert Response Network (GOARN)

Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) was established in 2000 and comprises of over 300 partner institutions across the world. During the recent years multiple steps were undertaken to strengthen the capacity of the Network in the Region.

In 2023, Regional office conducted the first Regional Meeting of the Network after over a decade which brought together the Network partners from across the Region and consolidated efforts of partners in outbreak readiness and response. To advocate for and expand the Network, a GOARN Roadshow was conducted in 2022 which was participated by partners of the Network in the Region and beyond. Creating widespread interest, five new partners joined GOARN in 2023 and contributed to the ongoing work of the Region. Currently, there are 30 partners in the Region. In addition, two training programmes were conducted including a virtual training and simulation based GOARN Tier 2.0 face to face training in 2022. The capacities of the Network are spread across multiple technical areas including epidemiology, laboratory capacity, animal health, operational research and emergency coordination.

Moving forward, SEARO will endeavour to further expand the partner base and consolidate activities including conducting Tiered trainings, operational research, assessments as well as support outbreak response through deployments.
