Health Cluster Coordination

Health Cluster Coordination (HCC) plays a critical role in ensuring essential health service provision to affected populations in emergency settings. WHO leads the Global Health Cluster as a principle of the Inter Agency Standing Committee delivering on its commitment as a humanitarian organization. It is critical for WHO to fulfil the commitments of the cluster mechanisms coordinating closely with Health Cluster partners and other Clusters.

In this regard the Health Cluster Coordinators play a key role and having optimum capacity particularly in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The Emergency operations (EMO) unit works towards supporting the WCOs and Health Cluster Coordinators to deliver on the core functions of the cluster which include support, service delivery, plan and develop strategy, inform strategic decisions making, monitor and evaluate cluster performance, build national capacity, and undertake advocacy for cluster operations.

In addition, Regional Office has been building capacity of the Region’s cluster coordinators and building a pool of trained cluster coordinators through trainings and simulation exercises (SIMEX). In 2022-23 EMO supported regional and country level HCC trainings. A Regional HCC training was coordinate in November 2022 for Health Cluster Coordinators from four countries including Bangladesh and Myanmar and followed by another training during 2024 organized in Thailand.
