Operations Support and Logistics (OSL)

For any efficient response the importance of having the right supplies, of the right quality, in right quantities, at the right place, at the right time cannot be understated.  In this effort the operations support logistics (OSL) has been working towards conducting multiple preparedness and response activities.

EMO initiated the establishment of OSL network in the Region. Capacity and connectivity are maintained and streamlined from forecasting to last mile delivery. The OSL focal points have been identified in all WHO country Offices and regular meetings, updates and trainings are organized.

SEARO maintains a Regional stockpile which has supported multiple countries including Bangladesh, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The Regional stockpiles have been compiled into an online database making it readily available anytime to the WCOs to access request for emergency supplies. These stockpiles are continuously scaled-up as well as regularly moved to maximize utilization.

Some of the critical response support the OSL network coordinated included supporting emergency procurement of supplies to maintain essential health services during economic crisis in Sri Lanka and ensuring laboratory testing capacities in the Member States during monkey pox diagnostics.

Regional office continues to further consolidate and build capacity of the OSL Network in the Region. Some key activities ongoing include mapping existing capacities, assessing needs and strengthen the medical supply chain channels based on the risk assessments of the countries.
