Lessons from case studies of social participation and its role in the pandemic response in the WHO South-East Asia Region, 2025
Overview
Member States of WHO South-East Asia Region continue to strengthen social participation in health, as demonstrated by case studies from Bangladesh, India and Thailand. The COVID-19 pandemic tested health systems and underscored the vital role of participatory mechanisms in crisis response. These examples highlight how multi-sectoral partnerships and government–civil society collaboration drive effective crisis management, highlighting that collaborative approach is essential for navigating uncertainty and fostering resilience. Lessons from these case studies provide valuable guidance for inclusive governance in health. By empowering communities, fostering diversity and institutionalizing collaboration, Member States can build stronger decision-making processes in health, towards a healthier and more resilient future.
