The Work of WHO in the South-East Asia Region, Report of the Regional Director, 1 January–31 December 2024
Overview
This Annual Report of the Regional Director describes the work of the World Health Organization in the South-East Asia Region from 1 January to 31 December 2024. During the year, WHO actively collaborated with ministries of health, UN Specialized Agencies, stakeholders and partners to ensure the health and well-being of the more than 2 billion people of the Region.
The Regional Director, Saima Wazed, in 2024 launched the visionary Regional Roadmap for Results and Resilience. Co-created with Member States, this Roadmap is the overarching framework on which WHO based its work to promote, provide and protect the health of the people of South-East Asia. The progress made during the year is presented against the framework of the Roadmap, outlining the activities undertaken and advancements made under each of its five strategic pillars.
The Annual Report highlights the significant achievements of Member States, the Regional Office and the WHO country offices during the year. It documents the challenges faced and enumerates the Regional Office’s contribution towards achieving the Organization’s strategic objectives. This volume will serve as a repository of information on the current health status in countries of the WHO South-East Asia Region, home to a quarter of humankind
