Nurturing hopes: Progress in implementing the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer in the WHO South-East Asia Region

Overview

Launched by the WHO in 2018, the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC) aims to achieve at least a 60% survival rate for children with cancer globally by 2030. The mortality due to childhood cancer in WHO SE Asia region remains three times higher than in the high-income countries.

This document provides a narrative overview of the collective efforts to combat childhood cancer across the Member States in the region. These include the establishment of the South-East Asia Regional Childhood Cancer Network, innovations in shared care network and quality improvements in the GICC focus countries, improved access to quality assured medicines via the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines and similar case stories.
