Overview

The virtual workshop on advancing research and innovation to accelerate momentum towards ending TB in the WHO South-East Asia Region was held from 5–7 August 2025. It brought together Member States, partners, civil society, donors, and technical agencies to discuss the persistent burden of tuberculosis and the urgent need for innovation. The event focused on accelerating research and innovation, with key themes including diagnostics, vaccine development, digital tools, and community engagement.

The workshop emphasized the importance of regional collaboration, integration of TB care with primary health services, and the role of WHO Collaborating Centres. Member States shared impactful innovations to accelerate TB efforts and overcome some of the challenges being faced by the programmes. Strategic discussions focused on TB vaccine preparedness, regulatory pathways, and health system readiness.

The workshop concluded with a strong call to action for increased funding, equitable access, and South-South collaboration to accelerate TB elimination. Participants agreed that the region’s progress depends on innovation, integration, and collective commitment to overcoming programmatic challenges and advancing towards the End TB targets.
