The WHO Global Programme on Tuberculosis & Lung Health works towards the goal of a world free of TB, with zero deaths, disease and suffering due to the disease. The team’s mission is to lead and guide the global effort to end the TB epidemic through universal access to people-centred prevention and care, multisectoral action and innovation.

Vision

A World free of TB – zero deaths, disease and suffering due to TB and associated lung health conditions

Mission

Lead and guide the global effort to end the TB epidemic and address closely related lung health conditions and risk factors through universal access to people-centered prevention and care, multisectoral action and innovation.

Core functions

To contribute to achieving the targets of the Sustainable Development Goal 3, the End TB Strategy and WHO's Strategic Priorities, the team focuses on 6 core functions:

1. Provide global leadership to end TB through strategy development, political and multisectoral engagement, accountability, advocacy, and partnerships and address its risk factors, and social determinants.

2. Shape the TB research and innovation agenda and stimulate the generation, translation and dissemination of knowledge based on the WHO Global Strategy for Tuberculosis Research and Innovation.

3. Develop and disseminate evidence-based normative guidance on people-centered TB prevention and care.

4. Provide technical support to Member States to implement WHO’s End TB Strategy and guidance, while strengthening health workforce capacity.

5. Monitor, report and provide strategic information on the status of the TB epidemic and progress in the TB response at global, regional and country levels, in the context of global TB commitments, strategies and targets.
