Global Tuberculosis Programme
The WHO Global Tuberculosis Programme works towards the goal of a world free of TB, with zero deaths, disease and suffering due to the disease. The team’s mission is to lead and guide the global effort to end the TB epidemic through universal access to people-centred prevention and care, multisectoral action and innovation.

Tuberculosis data

Data reported by countries to WHO and estimates of tuberculosis burden generated by WHO for the Global Tuberculosis Report.

Global tuberculosis report 2021 cover
WHO has published a global tuberculosis (TB) report every year since 1997. The report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic, and of progress in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease at global, regional and country levels.

The 2021 edition of the Global Tuberculosis Report was published on 14 October 2021

Tuberculosis country, regional and global profiles

Tuberculosis profiles are generated automatically based on data reported by countries and which are held in WHO's global TB database. They are available for all countries and territories asked to report TB data to WHO. Countries can update information at any time via WHO's TB data collection system (or, for countries in the European region, via the ECDC - WHO/Europe Joint Surveillance system). Therefore data in profiles may differ slightly from the data available at the time Global Tuberculosis Report was written.

Provisional TB notifications by month or quarter

In 2020, the Global Tuberculosis Programme began asking global and regional priority countries for the provisional number of new and relapse TB cases notified to health authorities by month or quarter. These numbers are not final and are subject to change. However, they provide an early indication of how the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic may be affecting essential TB services.

CSV files

Download data provided by countries to WHO and estimates of TB burden generated by WHO for the Global Tuberculosis Report as comma-separated value (CSV) files. CSV files can be opened by or imported into many spreadsheet, statistical analysis and database packages.

Data are provided in accordance with WHO's data sharing policy and their use are subject to WHO's terms and conditions.

WHO TB burden estimates

This includes WHO-generated estimates of TB mortality, incidence (including disaggregation by age, sex, risk factors, HIV status, rifampicin resistance), case fatality ratio, treatment coverage (previously called case detection rate) and latent TB infection among children aged under 5 years.

Data provided by countries and territories

WHO's global TB database is updated regularly as countries notify WHO of corrections to previously submitted data. Therefore country data downloaded to CSV files may differ slightly from the data available at the time the Global Tuberculosis Report is written.
