Overview

This report provides a global assessment of taxes applied to sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs). It describes and qualitatively compares their design and provides the first global estimation of standardized metrics to compare tax levels between countries. The assessment is based on data compiled by WHO for the second time since first publication in 2023. It provides standardized indicators of price and tax level for an internationally comparable brand of sugar-sweetened carbonated beverage and information on tax policy for all types of non-alcoholic beverages.
