Strategic Knowledge Hub

Strategic Knowledge Hub

The Strategic Knowledge Hub in WHO’s Western Pacific Regional Office offers early career professionals the opportunity to work on a range of health challenges. The Hub is hosted by the Office of Director, Programme Management to support different technical units and address health challenges facing the region, while facilitating and promoting new ways of working.

The Hub trains new members in the hypothesis-driven approach, which is designed to help reach answers that drive action to tackle the challenges we face. Members apply this approach to solve problems and provide recommendations to technical units at the Regional Office and Country Offices. Each project addresses a different problem, providing team members the opportunity to gain broad insights and experience in a variety of health areas.

Members of the Hub are physically based in the Western Pacific Regional Office in Manila, Philippines to enable flexible coordination with the Regional Office divisions. The programme lasts two years*.

*Subject to satisfactory performance in year one.

Why the hypothesis-driven approach?

The hypothesis-driven approach is an integral part of the WHO Western Pacific Region’s For the future vision. For the future is about addressing our future challenges today. To tackle these future challenges, we need a different approach to the one we use for the immediate problems of the present. These future challenges do not have clear answers and the solutions are situation specific – there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach. Therefore, we need a way to quickly devise tailored solutions, compiling and customizing based on the best available knowledge.

The OpenWHO course about the hypothesis-driven approach is available here.
