The celebration was a way to acknowledge the many women and we-men who are responding to the post-cyclone, the Zika outbreak, and the daily health programmes that all of us are engaged thus also remains a pertinent moment and significant opportunity to raise awareness and take purposeful action

“We should all work together to help accelerate gender parity and truly make a difference”, said WHO Representative and Director of Pacific Technical Support, Director Dr. Liu Yunguo. Both the DPS Management Team and the 2016 Staff Association Officers are already composed of 50% female and 50% male. DPS 50-50 has already achieved the call of UN Secretary General for Planet 50-50 by 2030.

The celebration was well attended by all staff who enjoyed viewing the DPS ladies’ “This is our moment” video (2014 IWD); the announcement of Haiku and short poem writing contest results; and the team trivia quiz. The celebration culminated with a ‘Healthy lunch’. The event was organized and sponsored by the newly elected Staff Association, with technical guidance from Dr Madeline Salva.
