Monitoring progress towards global goals for health

Monitoring progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and universal health coverage (UHC) is a priority of the Western Pacific Region. In 2016, the sixty-seventh session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific endorsed the Regional Action Agenda on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the Western Pacific.

Based on the request of the Regional Committee, the Health Information and Intelligence (HII) unit of the Western Pacific Region provides tailored technical support to countries in monitoring and working towards achieving the targets in the SDGs, as well as those in the WHO Thirteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 13), which are summarized in the Triple Billions.

HII also directly facilitates the global country consultation and estimation for indicators such as UHC service coverage and financial protection, and disease-specific mortality and disability. Once published globally, HII facilitates use of these indicators to inform country action through a range of data products, including in the Western Pacific Health Data Platform.
