Strengthening actions to protect children from the harmful impact of food marketing in the Western Pacific Region

25 August 2025 10:00 – 11:30 SGT
Webinar

Background

The pervasive and persuasive marketing of breast-milk substitutes and foods high in saturated and trans-fatty acids, free sugars and salt poses a significant public health challenge.

To tackle this, the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office is committed to supporting Member States in implementing the Regional Action Framework on protecting children from the harmful impact of food marketing, adopted at the seventieth session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific. This year marks the midpoint in the Framework’s implementation period (2020-2030).

The WHO Western Pacific Regional Office will host a webinar to:

  • review regional evidence on food marketing
  • outline WHO's global position and guidelines on the issue
  • preview the Operational Manual of the Framework
  • highlight country experiences

Policy-makers, programme officers, WHO technical staff and partners, civil society and researchers involved in the development or implementation of food marketing policies in the Western Pacific Region are invited to join.

You will also hear from distinguished country representatives who will share their experiences in developing and strengthening policies to end the inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes and to restrict the marketing of foods high in saturated and trans-fatty acids, free sugars and salt. Your participation will contribute to our collective efforts to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal of ending all forms of malnutrition.
