Emergency Medical Team Coordination Cell training and simulation exercise

7 – 10 October 2025
Darwin, Australia

Successful coordination of Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) means those affected by emergencies can seamlessly access different levels of care according to their clinical needs.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Region is holding an EMT Coordination Cell (EMTCC) training and simulation exercise to prepare Ministry of Health personnel and surge staff to coordinate EMTs when emergencies strike. After the training, the Ministry of Health personnel will have the skills, tools and peer network to coordinate surge staffing in emergencies.

WHO will deliver the training and conduct a simulation exercise with support from the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC).

Thirty participants who are all trained Emergency Medical Team members will learn EMT coordination. Participants are from Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Tonga, and Vanuatu.

Facilitators are from the Australian Medical Assistance Team, Japan Disaster Relief Team/Japan International Cooperation Agency, NCCTRC, Papua New Guinea EMT, Vanuatu Medical Assistance Team, and WHO.
