Infant and young child feeding: model chapter for textbooks for medical students and allied health professionals, 2nd ed.
Overview
The Model
Chapter, which was first published in 2009, brings together essential knowledge
about infant and young child feeding that health professionals should acquire
as part of their basic education. It focuses on nutritional needs and feeding
practices in children less than two years of age – the most critical period for
child nutrition after which sub-optimal growth is hard to reverse.
This
second edition has been revised and restructured to incorporate new and updated
WHO recommendations. It is organised into eight sections, each of
which includes key messages, a brief outline and a comprehensive reference
list. The Model Chapter includes descriptions of essential knowledge and skills
required to support healthy infant and young child feeding in maternity care
facilities and in the community.
