Global curriculum guide for community health workers
Overview
The contribution of community health workers (CHWs) to universal health coverage and their performance can be optimized through appropriate health workforce integration and health system support and by ensuring that they are equipped with the requisite competencies as related to their specific role.
This guide was developed to assist in the conceptualization, design and implementation of CHW curricula with a view to strengthening delivery of essential services at community level as an integral part of primary health care.
Considering the wide variance of CHW roles across countries and settings, the competencies they require to deliver services are highly context specific. This CHW curriculum guide should be adapted to the needs of different countries, health systems, programmes and contexts.
