Overview

Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs), including diseases caused by antimicrobial-resistant pathogens, can potentially cause regional and global outbreaks. The International Health Regulations, also known as IHR (2005), provide the legal framework for collective action by WHO and Member States to prepare for and respond to EIDs that may cross borders and pose threats to health security.
