Strategic framework for the comprehensive prevention and control of cervical cancer in the Western Pacific Region 2023-2030

Overview

The Western Pacific Region accounts for one-fourth of the global cervical cancer burden, and approximately 90% of that burden is in lower-middle-income countries. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers if detected early, yet it continues to be a significant public health problem and cause of premature mortality among women. This document provides an evidence-based, consultative framework to inform policy and practice and to shape advocacy for the prevention and control of cervical cancer in the Western Pacific Region. It offers broad guidelines to develop and strengthen national cervical cancer control programmes, ensuring sustainability towards achieving global targets for the elimination of cervical cancer.
