Neglected Tropical Diseases
Supports Member States to prevent, control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases through integrated interventions, including preventive chemotherapy, early case detection and care, disability prevention and support, and multisectoral action to address environmental and zoonotic risks through primary health care and One Health approaches, with an emphasis on reaching the unreached.

The Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Team supports Member States in advancing integrated, people-centred and sustainable responses to prevent, control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases across the Western Pacific Region, with an emphasis on reaching the unreached.

This is accomplished by:

  • Scaling up preventive chemotherapy, early case finding, quality clinical care and rehabilitation, including stigma reduction and disability prevention and support for affected populations
  • Strengthening surveillance, data systems, operational research, and monitoring and evaluation to guide evidence-based action and track progress towards elimination targets
  • Supporting national planning and multisectoral collaboration through One Health and primary health care to accelerate progress towards the NTD Roadmap and relevant Sustainable Development Goal targets.
