A WHO team led by the WHO Representative, Dr Bhupinder Kaur AULAKH, met with the faculty and students of the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health (FoNPH) today. The team shared lifestyle-related diseases in Bhutan and WHO’s ongoing efforts to address the risk factors. Also, the team presented the findings from the National Health Survey 2023 and the Blood Lead Level Survey 2024, highlighting emerging public health concerns and priority areas for action.

The presentation included an overview of WHO’s technical packages, such as the PEN interventions, MPOWER, REPLACE, and SHAKE, among others, aimed at reducing modifiable risk factors and strengthening health systems.

Dr Aulakh emphasized that “lifestyle-related diseases are preventable” and underscored the critical role FoNPH plays in their prevention and control of lifestyle related diseases. As a technical agency, she reaffirmed WHO’s full support for FoNPH in its efforts towards building capacity to curb NCDs.

The session concluded with an open interaction, during which FoNPH requested WHO to consider similar technical discussions in the future.
