From 16–20 June 2025, Bhutan is undergoing its second Joint External Evaluation (JEE)—a rigorous global process led by WHO (HQ, Regional, and Country Office) along with MoH to assess emergency preparedness and response capacities.

Over 20 international experts with decades of experience are working alongside 60+ national experts from MoH, CSOs, DeSuung, the Armed Forces, & more.

The JEE reviews 19 key areas—from legislation and lab systems to surveillance, AMR, risk communication, and health financing—to identify strengths, gaps, and clear, achievable recommendations.

MoH first conducted JEE in 2017. This 5-yearly review is a country-led, WHO-supported journey to strengthen systems and build a resilient health system ready for any public health threat.
