World Health Day 2025 (Bhutan)

The Ministry of Health celebrated World Health Day 2025 at the Faculty of Nursing Public Health premises today. The theme for this year’s World Health Day celebration was “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” focusing on improving maternal and newborn health and survival.

The event was graced by Tshog-ki Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang as the chief guest. The WHO Representative to Bhutan, Dr Bhupinder Kaur Aulakh in her address lauded the achievements of Bhutan in maternal and child health and thanked the health workers who are serving across the country for their relentless efforts over the years that resulted in improved maternal and child health outcomes in the country. She urged the whole-of-society approach to overcome the growing challenge of Noncommunicable Diseases.

During the celebrations, certificates were awarded to the Paediatric, Gynae, Community health and primary health care services in appreciation for their exceptional contributions to maternal, child, and community health in Bhutan. The Faculty of Nursing and Public Health also received certificate of appreciation in recognition for its outstanding contributions to healthcare education and its unwavering dedication in strengthening Bhutan's health workforce.

The world health day is celebrated on 7th April every year to raise awareness about global health issues and to promote actions that contribute to a healthier world. The day marks the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 and serves as an opportunity to highlight a specific health theme that is of pressing concern worldwide.
