Consultation on the “European quality of care and patient safety status report” – state of play and future prospects

Quality of care is the central component of health system performance. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed many pre-existing weaknesses in this area, but also redoubled efforts to address the many challenges facing health systems. This has led to the introduction of social and digital innovations and approaches, such as new models for engaging and ensuring the participation of patients and families.

WHO/Europe’s forthcoming “European quality of care and patient safety status report” will be introduced at this side event in a draft format for consultation. The report spotlights novel approaches to ensure quality of care, identifies tracer indicators to measure what matters, and proposes a set of objectives and key results that will put health systems on the right track to deliver quality care.
