Supporting health leadership for the present while developing health leadership for the future: the Pan-European Leadership Academy

With a vision to support health leadership today while building up the health leaders of tomorrow, the Pan-European Leadership Academy (ELA) offers learning opportunities and placements with WHO/Europe for early- and mid-career public health and health-related professionals. Launched in September 2021, the ELA was established to provide structured opportunities for professional development within WHO/Europe, and thus create a network of trained health professionals to support and advance the European Programme of Work. Since then, 2 cohorts – Tier 1 of early-career public health and health-related professionals and Tier 2 of mid-career professionals from ministries of health and institutes of public health – have completed programmes and placements with WHO/Europe.

This side event will bring ELA champions and alumni together with Member States, partners and WHO staff who have collaborated on the project to report on the initiative, share experiences and successes, and look to scaling up the initiative in the next biennium.
