Kathmandu, Bagmati province - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and WHO Country Office for Nepal observed World Cancer Day at Bir Hospital, in the presence of senior officials from the MoHP, Nepal Academy of Medical Sciences and Nepal Medical Association; public health experts; clinical professionals; civil society organizations; development partners and media representatives. Held under the theme "United by Unique," the event served as a platform to elevate public awareness and strengthen multisectoral collaboration, with emphasis on the urgent need for cancer prevention, early detection and treatment. Participants also advocated for stronger policy implementation and increased resource allocation to address cancer challenges in Nepal and also bought renewed attention to the National Cancer Control Strategy 2024, which supports stakeholders to enhance cancer services at primary healthcare level, ensuring improved access to care for all citizens. Presentations by MoHP, partners and WHO on the current cancer landscape in Nepal, along with control measures, also highlighted the collective commitment to advancing the strategy. WHO will now monitor and follow up on the commitments made during the event to ensure their effective implementation.
